Book of the Year Awards 2007  A number of our first annual YouWriteOn Book of the Year Award finalists are now represented by leading literary agents, including Curtis Brown. One of our finalists has achieved a two book deal with a major publisher after achieving a free YouWriteOn professional critique from a Senior Editor at Orion books – View Details.

Welcome to our YouWriteOn Book of The Year Awards information page. To enter the competition all you need to do is join up for free and upload the opening chapters of your book on the site. To learn how to use the site, view The Simple Guide To Getting Started 

The YouWriteOn premise is simple: you review and rate another members opening chapters and then your opening chapters are sent randomly to another member to review and rate in turn. 

Free professional critiques from Editors for Curtis Brown, Orion and Bloomsbury   At the start of each month, the five authors of the highest rated chapters in the YouWriteOn Top Ten receive a free critique from our literary professionals, who include editors for leading agents and publishers, including Curtis Brown, Orion and Bloomsbury . The Top Five, and stories which have gained over 25 days in our Top Ten collectively, enter the YouWriteOn Best Sellers Chart. The Best Sellers Chart is the showcase for the highest rated stories on YouWriteOn.

At the end of each year, YouWriteOn's literary professionals judge the best opening chapters from the Best Sellers Chart and choose six winners: three winners in the adult fiction category, and three winners in the children's fiction category. The winners will be awarded our
Book of The Year Publishing Award – the authors books will be published by YouWriteOn, available to order as a paperback through booksellers such as Amazon, W.H.Smith, Barnes and Noble, Waterstones and most US and UK bookstores. The winners earns royalties and sales made through booksellers such as Amazon will feature on Amazon’s own book charts. 

Leading Literary Agents and Publishers The aim of the YouWriteOn book awards is also to help publicize talented new writers and help them gain interest from traditional agents and publishers. The winners this year featured in national media, including on the BBC News site, and several of the winners have gained interest and representation from leading literary agents such as Curtis Brown - please see our Book of the Year Update below. All members and winners are free to be represented and published by whom they wish.

Book of the Year Awards 2007 - Winners & Finalists Update

We are extremely pleased that YouWriteOn winners and finalists have gained great interest and representation from the site’s affiliated literary professionals, who include editors for leading literary agents and publishers, including Curtis Brown, Orion and Bloomsbury . YouWriteOn and the book awards also gained excellent publicity, including on the BBC News site

YouWriteOn Book Awards 2007:  Six writers were chosen in the awards, three in the Adult Fiction category, and three in the Children’s Fiction category. The first place adult fiction, The Africa Reich by Guy Saville, is being represented by Curtis Brown. Guy is currently developing his novel further. An editor for Curtis Brown is also very enthusiastic about third place adult fiction winner, The Lorelei Effect by Michael Alan, which they are considering. 

The second place children’s story, Sharpshooter by S Star, is being represented by literary agent Conville and Walsh, and the writer is currently developing the story further with their help. The other winners in the adult and children’s fiction categories are also either being considered or in the process of completing their stories. All members of YouWriteOn are free to be represented and published by whoever they wish. 

The site’s affiliated literary agents, who also include the Christopher Little Literary Agency have been in touch with us to say they were very impressed by the first book awards and publicity. Other leading literary agents have also expressed an interest in working with YouWriteOn as a result of the book awards, including suggesting the possibility of becoming involved in helping to judge next year’s book awards. 

Finalists and other members have also gained interest from leading agents and publishers. This includes finalist The Emperor’s Elephant by Doug Jackson. Doug’s opening chapters received rave reviews from members, and was awarded a free critique by YouWriteOn literary professional Sara O’Keeffe. Sara is a senior editor for a leading publisher, she was very impressed with the chapters and feedback from readers. Doug developed the story with Sara’s help and has now obtained a 2 book publishing deal with major publisher Transworld, who publish authors such as Bill Bryson, Ben Elton and Jilly Cooper.  YouWriteOn members in our Best Sellers Chart and members in our Top Thirty, who have developed their writing through peer and professional feedback, have also contacted us to tell us they have also gained interest from agents or been published by traditional publishers. We have also been contacted by agents who have expressed an interest in other writers in the charts, including an author who was placed just outside the Top Ten in 2006.
