I have had two readers holding my chapters for reviewing for days now and though I continue to review others work mine hasn't been sent out to any other reviewers to keep things moving. This has caused me to drop two places in the charts as others around me who are, I presume, receiving reviews are moving on up.

Wouldn't it be better if folk only ask for an assignment when they know they have time to read it and review it? I know there will be the odd time that something happens and your good intention is thwarted, but as I have seen other postings about late reviewers, I know I am not the only one affected by these.

I hadn't thought before, that my place in the charts could rely on prompt reviews, too. I accept the two holding mine at the moment may give me bad scores and I will go down anyway, but I would have gone down from a higher position than I am at now and if they give a good review I have further to climb than before - so the impact of late reviews can be a double whammy!

Can you do something, Ted? Maybe reduce the timescale for reviews to be done in? Best wishes to all, Mary

Check the threads about recent site changes. YWO recently introduced ways to penalise reviewers who let things time out.

Personally I throw back far more than I review, but I do it promptly - within 24 hours, to let someone else have a go.

And as for threads on speed of reviews etc, look around, it's been discussed to death every week or so since I can recall.

Hi Mary, we will be bring in other changes which should assist further. Currently you have two readers assigned and 7 reviews in the last 17 days I believe.

What we'll probably see less of now with the new system is books being clogged up through members requesting assigments when they first join and not reviewing, as used to happen. Reviews from members will be from those who have uploaded a story e.g. who have incentive to complete reviews. Next will be functions cutting down on multiple assignment request which are not all completed, and there are some fairly straightforward ways to do this, the programming however takes time. Another aim of the new system was overall members liked the idea of getting reviews from those who had their own stories uploaded, and who had received reviews themselves, which now happens. Hope you get some more soon.

I seem to be having the same problem even though I have reviewed several other writings over past 2 days. I have one in my box now that I've read and making notes on.

I have the same reviewer holding on to my chapters which is ok I guess, even though (s)he failed the reading test after having them for maybe a 1/2 hour. However, my other credits have been waiting to be assigned. I have deleted them then put them back thinking maybe I did something wrong but no. The credits are still sitting there. Perhaps the reviews will actually take longer now to come back and the credits longer to be assigned because people are going to take their time and do the reviews correctly. I hope that's why but it is frustrating to see your writing sitting there and there are no takers.

I don't really care about the charts (well, yes I do :confused but more about the feedback. I keep checking my e-mail and the sight to see if I got one and nothing. It's only been 3 days since my last review but 3 days seems an eternity to writers. Hopefully, we'll get something soon.

As I understand it - not having reviews promptly doesn't necessarily mean you go down the charts - just has having more reviews doesn't mean you will go up (getting less favourable reviews will of course send you down). If you've gone down without having reviews it simply means others have got some higher scores. You can also go up in the charts without having reviews if your competitors get lower scores. Of course if you are waiting for your 8th review, it does make a difference as then you can remove your lowest score.

Sometimes I like to give a piece a quick read when I get it, and then look at it in more detail over a couple of days. This process can go on for the full week allowed. I'd prefer if more people took their time as I've had a couple of reviews where the reader has obviously spent about ten minutes skimming through my piece...

Then again, I'm not that worried about the charts (in fact, it's the only part of the site I don't like as it seems to encourage competition as opposed to co-operation) - I'm really here to try and learn...

Sorry if I'm taking my time, but I'm doing my best (as opposed to my quickest).

I'd rather you take your time, too. We just live in a "now" society that waiting is difficult.

Patience. It's something I need to work on.

You think waiting for three days is too long???

Here, me, the longest wait award holder: 23 days. Now that's a wait.
Keep writing.

Oh, No, REALLY! I'd be suicidal! Though thought the explanation from Derek was very good, hope my readers are doing that and not just leaving it sitting there. And thanks, Ted, too. You respond to our worries promptly, which is very encouraging. (any chance of a spell check facility being added?). Sorry about my eagerness in the chart placement of my book, I can't help it, I just so love something happening with my writing, wished it was that it was getting published, but being in a chart and being there because of what other writers think is the next best thing and gives me a buzz. Besides, I really want to achieve that professional review! Good luck everyone. Mary

What bothers me right now is that I only have one person reviewing my chapters and no one else has been assigned my chapters in five days even though I have reviewed at least five if not six pieces i the same amount of time. I'm sitting here waiting for reviews and I'm not even getting my chapters assigned. Before the change, someone was usually assigned the chapters within 1 or 2 days of issuing the credit but now - nothing, the credits are sitting there waiting. I hope I don't have to wait a week or two to have just one credit assigned and then wait a week for the person to review it or discard it. If that happens then it will be easy to fall off the charts very fast because while others are getting their chapters assigned and getting scores, your work is sitting there without even a chance to move forward or backwards. It's like a car stalled on a race track. If you can't get it going then the rest are going to keep blowing by you and before long, you're five laps down. :-)

In the meantime, I will continue to edit the rest of my novel and work on books 2 and 3 and learn the art of patience....
