After having no reviews for about a week, I went from number 5 in the charts to 17. Still not had any reviews and Im back up to 10. Confusing or what? The other thing I noticed was that I had regular reviews until I reached the top ten, then they all but dried up. Is this normal? Being in the top ten is not what I'm here for, so I'm not hung up about it, still it would be nice to get a proffessional review - not that I haven't had some very proffessional sounding reviews already. thank all good reviewers for their help!

I don't think you're alone in this - there are a lot of dramatic shifts upwards and downwards at the moment even though assignment reviews are very sluggish. Your story is shifting in response to slight changes in other people's work because the scores are (I'm assuming) all very similar. If, for argument's sake, your story is rated at about 4.3, there are probably numerous stories above and below yours at the same apparent score but differing by only 100ths or thousandths of a point, so as their work shifts according to their latest scores, yours is affected even though it's not getting reviewed. As you can tell from this ramble, I'm not into maths or statistics, but I hope you get my drift! I hope you get your pro crit for Chrissie - good luck!

I wonder how many reviewers pass on a TT piece because the responsibility feels too weighty. I confess I sometimes do this myself...only sometimes. If the story grabs and hooks me I'll take it on. But I recently received an assignment for a story currently in the TT and after reading half of it, I passed. I was unable to see how it merited its position. If the piece remains there long enough to receive a pro crit, then the 'experts' will say what has to be said...without me getting my hands dirty. I like a quiet life, me.

I'll get back to it but if the first 1000 words or so are any indication it's going to be a lot of fun getting to the end. Brilliant.

It wd also do away with the tall poppy syndrome.

That's good to hear, Ciaran. Have another go at it, when you get a chance. I'd be interested to hear your opinions. I've been in the peculiar position of trying to avoid the TT, should the gods have willed it. Clingfilm is above the eligible word limit so wouldn't qualify for a pro crit and taking up space when someone else could have it seemed unfair. But I'm happy at the overall response from reviewers. Totally agree with you, notleyab. Tall poppy? I'm stumped too.

You've probably googled it by now. If not (to save me looking for the words) ...heeeeeeeeeeere's Wiki: where people of genuine merit are resented, attacked, cut down, or criticised because their talents or achievements elevate them above or distinguish them from their peers Edit: Of course it won't do away with it (rather OTT that) but might help.
