I have to applaud Ted from youwriteon and youwriteon members for their spirited defence of this site that appeared on a rather bruising thread on the 'absolute' site. Reading that particular thread put me in mind of when hapless victims were fed to the lions in roman times: it was THAT painful to read and youwriteon had to fend off so many rabid lions... Me being a coward, I chose to spectate but was cheering you lot on, honest! Dear oh dear. May this forum never end up in such a way... may it continue to be a safe civilised haven...

I've just been over and read the threads - how negative and sad they are. The chapters I've submitted here have received some worthwhile feedback, some rubbish reviews and some that fed my ego, but didn't improve my writing skills. The worthwhile reviews have helped me to improve my writing considerably. For this I am very grateful. If I ever gain a professional critique it will be as a direct result of those reviews. Each rewrite has taken the valid comments into account and the writing is stronger as a result. Thank you to all who took the time to give the type of review a writer can learn from. Lorraine

In answer to 'rubbish reviews' I add that no professional help can be hoped for after someone has put you down. It takes a minority of reviewers to cause good writing to fall in the charts. However, gaining from the good reviews, one can at least learn a lot. To the good reviewers - THANKYOU. To the poor reviewers - a big, fat raspberry. Chers, QBall.

You were so right! I got zeroes in some of my reviews! Hooray! How was your holiday? A whole month! Wow!

Excuse my ignorance, but what site are you talking about? I'd like a look to see what was said. Cheers

I don't know what the forum times are at the moment. Eight hours behind GMT limits my time. I have yet to read the thread as yet. Holiday was great until a bottle of beer (just one!) put me out for over a day. Cheers, QBall.
