I'm becoming really tired by people who don't bother reading past the first page before trying to review. My appreciation to all those who did, irrespective of positive/negative responses. The cretins who can't answer simple questions? Eff you and back to the creche.

Umm, over 7 per cent fail rate - that's quite high. During the years of my membership, I've never even had one person fail my reading test. Are you sure your questions are that simple?

I know its frustrating to receive an e-mail informing you that a reviewer failed the reading test, but perhaps it is for the best if they have not paid enough attention to your text to answer the questions correctly. What kind of a review would you get if they "cheated" the system and passed the reading test by scanning back over the text for the right answers? On a point of order Perry, I don't think it does your reputation any good if you resort to calling people "morons" and "cretins" on the message board. Ok, your last line gave me a good laugh, but maybe you should resist the temptation to log on to this site late on a Friday night, if you know what I mean. I sincerely wish you well with your writing. Safia

Are you sure your questions are that simple? I've never seen a fail rate as high as 7%, and I've been here since 2008. Pam Howes, an intelligent and conscientious reader, took the trouble to tell you a couple of weeks ago that she had problems with your reading test. Instead of saying "Thanks for letting me know, I'll go and fix it" you said there wasn't a problem, well, maybe there was a problem, but only with one question, and it only takes four right answers to pass. Why not just go and sort it out, instead of abusing your fellow YWO members on the Message Boards?

Why not just go and sort it out, instead of abusing your fellow YWO members on the Message Boards? Try reading that exchange again. I did acknowledge her input and corrected a question. What questions would you have me ask, the sort of stuff which TV puts on for the odd £10K? It's a test to ensure the reader was paying attention and 93% of readers pass it by your reckoning. To me that suggests I got it right. If the answers are in the text, clearly and distinctly, there is nothing wrong with the questions. If I failed a reading test, even in the most unattractive of chapters, I wouldn't be blaming the questioner if the answers were there to see. One has to wonder at the thinking processes of those who do, and those who argue for it. Safia - you're right of course. I chose a bad time to whine/wine. Ta for the heads up.

Instead of calling other members morons and cretins, Perry, I suggest you make your questions easier so that you can receive what may be useful reviews to help lift your work off the bottom of the charts. You can't blame that on anyone but yourself.

You can't blame that on anyone but yourself. On the untoward descriptions, my response to safia refers. I have contacted Ted on the matter to ascertain the credibility of my questions being unduly difficult. The whole function of the reading test is to ensure the piece is read. If the questions were any easier, I should perhaps be spending my time spamming on a site meant for writers? Cut/paste story onto word - read questions - use find function on key words - answer questions.
