Do you know what is the average score of the people in the top 10? Are they all 5 and 4.9 scores? Do people with 4.1 and 4.2 have any hope of getting up there?

Good question, perditechno. I've no idea, but been wondering the same myself.

At the beginning of the month you probably only need about 4.4, because the highest-scoring pieces have been removed. Later on, perhaps nearer 4.5. Pieces at the top usually have 4.7 or more.

It varies from month to month. Also, there are variations within the 'average' score displayed, as the system rounds this up or down.

Two stories could show a 4.2 but one score could be slightly higher than the other. Or so, I'm led to believe!

I've been in the lower echelons of the TT with a 4.3, and close to the top with a 4.4. On average, I would guess a 4.6 or 4.7 would see you in the top three.

Sammy - when you say average score displayed where is it displayed? I have never been able to see anyone else's score and I have to work out my own with a calculator and a bit of paper. Am I missing a trick here?

Ann,
Just hover the mouse over the stars on your Book Details page to see the average score. You can't see other people's, though!

Claire, thanks for the information but I duly hovered and nothing appeared. Perhaps I don't have the correct programme on my computer? I hope I can find a way of doing this as it would save me a hell of a lot of time!

I just tried on my other computer and it did it! I am not sure it is quite as accurate as the pen and paper method as Sammy points out, but pretty useful none the less. Thanks Claire!

The 'hover text' thing works with Internet Explorer, but not Firefox, although there is an add-on you can get. Sadly, I can't remember what it's called but a search for 'alt text' ought to bring it up

For those on a Mac in Safari who are desperate to know their score, go to your star ratings page. Then go to menu - View - Source. Then go to Menu - Find- Find. Type imgstar into the box and bingo! It may work for Firefox too.

Bear in mind there are different weightings for different categories and that the system is standard deviation rather than a mean average. Therefore a score of all 1s won't affect ratings of 3s, 4s and 5s.
