Hi Judith,
thanks very much for your comments- glad you are finding the tips useful.
I'm in a bit of a quandary at the moment about the interviews/ website etc. As a true obsessive I spent many late nights researching book marketing, setting up blogs and websites etc. and really enjoyed the experience.
Now I have moved on to writing my next book, so that is taking up most of my spare time, and I'm not blogging as much as I did.
Also, now that sales of 'Tasting the Wind' have passed their peak I'm thinking that the cost of the website will not be justified by the money earned for the book, so am wondering whether I will continue with it.
Seeing your comments today has put doubt in my mind. What I will probably do is transfer the interview feature to my blog, so if you get back to me once you're published I could do that.
On the subject of marketing- having investigated so many avenues I think that the best advice I was ever given was to find my 'niche market.' As my book features people with learning disabilities I mentioned it on the PMLD network forum. For a long time 'Tasting the wind' was at position two of the 400 or so YWO books on Amazon UK. Recently it has gone down as far as 90. Last week I went back on to the forum to thank people who had bought it, and now it it back up to number 3!
I have also released it as an e-book through smashwords. It sells there at a fraction of the price of the paperback and earns a much bigger proportion in royalties.
Hope this is of use to any new or shortly to be published writers out there. Please feel free to use the resources on my blog (they start at the beginning of this year) and drop me a line through the comments.
Good luck with your book Judith, and thanks again,
Allan
