I'v just realised that the top ten rules say that the Top Ten for the previous month are announced on the first day of the next month - but the NBA rules say that the competition winners are announced on the 1st July. This appears to mean that June's TT is the one there today, and the NBA winner waits until tomorrow. But does June's TT include the NBA entrants?

Incidentally last month, the final TT announced on the 1st June were those there on the 1st June, not on 31st May, so I'm even further confused about the day which matters for the final TT.

I know it's early, but does anyone have a clue how all this works?

Hi Ann
I've always thought it's the first of the month for the TT. I'm guessing the NBA and the TT will both be posted tomorrow.

HI Willow,

Thanks for your help.

The rules say:"The Final Top Ten for each month is displayed early morning on the first day of each following month e.g. April’s Top Ten is displayed on May 1st as the complete last day of each month counts in the ratings."

However, I don't think they stick to this, and that actually it is what is displayed on the first day of the next month that counts. It was last month anyway.

Tomorrow will reveal all!

Tomorrow's chart will be very interesting.

The chart often changes between the last day of one month and the first of the next, presumably because the system updates overnight.

I can't help thinking this NBA malarkey has created an uneven playing field. If NBA participants can enter the TT in the last 7 days of the month, they may push deserving YWO members further down the charts. I'm not saying the NBA stories aren't worthy, but it does seem like a 2-tier system. I really think NBA should have been a separate site.

The NBA has a separate site, but the competitions take place on YWO. You have to register with the NBA site in order to participate. It would be better if there were a separate chart on YWO for the NBA then those of us who haven't entered the competition would have a better idea of where we stood. No doubt all will be revealed tomorrow.

In the end all that will happen is ten prof crits will be awarded instead of five; five to NBA entrants and the usual five on offer to existing YWO uploads.

They will go to the five highest placed stories for each scheme regardless of their actual chart positions. I don't see how anyone will lose out.

I believe it's five pro crits to the top five NBAs and three to the 'normal' chart top three novel openings. Short stories (and novel openings in the top ten that aren't the top three novels in the 'normal' chart) get mini pro crits. The top five stories in the top ten, including short stories, then progress to the Best Sellers Chart. With the NBA entrants mixed in with the 'normal' chart, however, I'm not sure what will happen tomorrow. Will NBA novels qualify as 'best sellers'?

Yes, my mistake about the number of crits usually on offer.

If the same level of organisational skill is applied tomorrow as to the NBA scheme in general I would expect to see chaos reign. And the MB full of righteous, and not so righteous, indignation!
