I'm planning on upping sticks from YouWriteOn in a week or thereabouts.
So if you've got a book that does any of the following, a) delights in language b) favours metaphor over action c) thinks in terms of 'voice' rather than character d) plays around with form e) isn't that bothered by plot f) have only tagged it LitFic, fiction or comedy, ie none of the other genres

THEN post yourself here and I will endeavour to give you a free will read and review before I go.

If you'd care to do the same with mine that would be great, but not mandatory.

It won't do any of our ratings any good, but us literary birds of a feather have to preen together ...
"A,B&E", "Not In My Name" and "52FF" (flash fiction anthology) all available on Amazon Kindle

Hello again sulcus, why the departure? I owe you one for the free will done on one of my own last week. I've downloaded your chapters, so don't go before tomorrow...

I would be a shame if you go, 'cos there are so few out there who appreciate literary work for the sake of it!

Anyone who signatures Alasdair Grey is all right by me.

Just think this is too broad church a site for me. Authors seem to retrench back into the genre in which they write, which is perfectly natural. But with so few Litfic ites/imes, it ceases to become much of a pure peer review site for the likes of me.

I just want to know if my thing works for my target audience or it doesn't. Feedback pure and simple. I don't really need specifics on line editing and to be fair to my reviewers thus far in the main they haven't done so, but purely reacted to the writing - thumbs up or down and that's fine.

But in the same way as I don't feel a competent enough peer reviewer of say Romance or YA, I just need to sharpen my focus group somehow.

We are all readers here, but we are not representative of the reading public as a whole, because we are also writers with inbuilt preferences. And dare I say it, prejudices, for we have whetted our own critical knives in making the decisions we make to write our books.

I will be very sorry to see you leave. I do hope that the review I gave your book was not the reason. Even if you say it wasn't I shall still feel guilty. And now I feel pompous and arrogant . . .Oh shit, I was never very good with words . . .

But the real reason I shall be sorry is that I have enjoyed and learned a lot from reading what you have to say about writing, both in particular and in general. The stuff you have put up on various message boards has helped point me in some new directions in a literary sense.

So many reviews seem to have a 'format review' which leaves one maybe with a good score but with no real view of what needs changing, it is refreshing to have reviewers who have a clear point of view are prepared to argue it and from whom one can learn.

So I am not asking for a review in the sense of scoring etc etc but your comments on Piano Playing Made Difficult (Part 2) which is the next part of the book now called the 16th Song would be welcomed.

Fair point. A shame then that I have taken my more usual work down, which crosses over with abandon - especially the latest-but-one which has themes of spy thriller, urban, philosophy, SF and erotica all in a Fantasy framework. Oh yes, it's also a collection of short stories set throughout a weekend and together they make a novel that tells the whole tale.

As David said, I have appreciated your posts and insight - it would be good if when you find such a literary site, you could let me know, either via forum or e-mail. Ta.

Thumbs up or down it is then.

Rest assured David it was not a reaction to your review.

And Ais, I will try and give your chapters a go tonight, unless some others come here who I haven't experienced yet.

The book set over a weekend sounds interesting.

I don't believe there are any sites LitFic heavy ! We are a dying breed, or an endangered species at least. Like I say, few seem to want to engage with the novel as a 21st Century beast, rather than a 20th Century dinosaur.

Hi,

I thought your writing was great. Different maybe but great.

If you can spare the time to look at my work greatly appreciated.

If not, I wish you well with yourself and your writing

All the very best

Thanks for the offer, but I've only got the one chapter up at the moment and you've already done a FWR on that...

Shame about the Literary sites situation, I was getting my hopes up there for a mo'.

Maybe as Steevang says, take a break, contemplate things for a while - I think your initiative of launching FWRs at any writer's work that takes your fancy will get you more like-minded return FWRs. Try sticking your 'disclaimer' before it on the upload and I'm sure the reviewers will honour that, especially if it's a free will.

Anyway, have a think on it (and we can both have a look for that ellusive dinosaur in the meantime...)

If you are a dying breed then why disappear and confirm the death?

If there are no LitFic heavy sites why disappear? Where will you go?

Most of us, this certainly applies to me, will feel in a minority on any site we go to.

Isn't that preferable to feeling as though you are part of the crowd doing what everyone else is doing?

Isn't that a recognition of your individuality?

I say stay here and continue to bang your drum; one of the many drums that make for a varied orchestra.

Leave and perhaps you risk becoming a dinosaur yourself.
