A few points in reply. First, of course, the problem is, as always, you cannot condense an entire novel into 7000 words and the publisher’s version is slightly different. The Door of Angels is not anti-Christian. In fact, Sophia is a Christian with deeply held beliefs. She is a complex and troubled individual, and characterisation is a vital aspect of the storyline. Although the catacombs are an essential part of the story, the historical facts are just as important. Dan Brown is a cross, born by the genre, but then, we do not say that all Whodunits are derived from Agatha Christie – every destructive love story ripped from D H Lawrence or every Sci-fi novel a clone of Isaac Asimov.

I suggest you read the reviews attached to the story and the Random House review on the message board. This will give you some idea of your lack of literary perception. Of course we do not all write with your conviction, or maybe we are not all as conceited – ‘I drink from the cup of creativity, I eat from the table of fables and epic parables’ – ‘beware my tales are gut-wretching, enthralling and cunningly visceral’. Crap and by the way, wretching is not a word – use retching or wrenching.

I am not sure what to say. I am shocked, my words must have really struck a nerve, which was never my intention. I just tried to give an honest yet polite review. It wasn't an attack of any kind. I respect you and your craft. I am by no means a master at the literary game but believe me when I write this, I know what makes a good story and what doesn't. I don't really care about Random House, Orion publishing or whatever publishing house the world thinks is great; they don't make sells, the readers do. Get out of the archaic notion that just because some editor at a publishing house gave you raving reviews then you make it big. That ideology is in the coffin. Stephen King, J.R Rowling, Amanda Hocking and numerous others were rejected several times, but look at them now. I honestly feel your comments were hurtful, debasing and childish. How old are you?...If you can't take criticism don't go public, they're people out there who will tear your work to pieces without the slightest shred of courtesy. GROW UP!

This bit of childishness was duplicated on the Thank You Forum, currently page 7, titled Thank You Bishop 1000: You can't please everyone.

I leave you with the final comment on that thread:

Every reviewer knows what they like and is entitled to their opinion on that premise without being sneered at. To point out errors where none exist is irritating and worthy of correction.

Waving a bunch of positive reviews about like diplomas is petty. Remember all those came from sources just about as qualified as the 'negative' one, and perhaps the person who you rebuke here might possibly be the one you should heed.
