As much as I love looking at it, DONNY really needs taking out of the the top ten, as it's follow on chapters, not opening ones.

Thanks to all the reviewers who put it there though!

A very elegant gesture on your part Kate, and obviously it's Ted's call, but I don't see the difference between someone adding on chapters and someone writing a series of short stories. The ratings are the ratings. I suppose someone could counterposit that pretty soon we'd have you, Avery, Karen, Andrew, Charlotte, Brian (just to mention some of the most recent novel openings selected) and others dominating the top ten, but it's unlikely everyone would write three chapters of a novel a month, and in addition follow-up chapters are at a natural disadvantage. That you are where you are is simply a tribute to the quality of your work. Well, I don't really have an opinion; I just wanted to note my appreciation of your kind gesture.

I think Kate's point is that the rules specifically state that only opening chapters are valid for the top ten. And she's quite right. Donny at No. 11 is still eminently readable. Although of course Top Ten unfortunately refers to the whole chart.

The piece deserved a couple of days in the sun, regardless. Your honesty will pay off, Kate!

Awe, thanks, you're all very kind.

As I said, it's really lovely to see it there, but rules is rules and fair is fair and it has to go.

Cheers all, I appreciate your comments greatly.

That happened to me once. One way to avoid it is to make sure your excerpt exceeds the word limit for the top ten.

Thank you sophiemp - that did cross my mind, but since the recent site changes the system won't actually allow chapters that exceed 7000 words to be uploaded. I have just checked by trying to paste the text in twice, but it wouldn't let me submit.

If it's still there tomorrow, I'll take it off all together - after saving all those valuable reviews that is.

Just this second received an email from Ted, and all will be well again tomorrow.

Apparently, I need to take it off and re-upload if I want more feedback. But if the ratings are good again, I shouldn't get more than 6 reviews on the new upload, which will prevent the same thing happening again.

So now I know, and that's what I'll do.

Thanks again to everyone who's reviewed.
