Can someone please explain to me -

how can #1 in the Top Ten yesterday -

fall to # 20 today-

because of one review?

I had the honor of sitting in #1 spot for well over a week -

then yesterday I received ONE mediocre review and -

BAM!

I went from a 4.6 Star rating to a 4.1 overnight.

This particular review was not noted as my lowest review.

Characters - 4
Story - 4
Pace - 3
Use of language - 4
Narrative Voice - 4
Dialogue - 4
Settings - 3
Themes - 2

This morning I deleted this review -

figuring that at least my overall star rating wouldn't change -

but my average remains at 4.1

Somebody -
anybody -
please tell me -
how can this happen?

Don't panic! Your star rating won't change until tomorrow even though you deleted the review today. So if that particular review has caused you to crash and burn then your 4.6 rating will be restored in the morning.

You do know that you only have to add a credit every seven days when you're in the top ten? If you want to stay there, and get a pro-crit, it would be my advice to do this as we all know that a string of top marks can't last!

Thanks Karen for that bit of reassuring info.

Yes I am aware of that requirement and have added a review every time within the time limit.

Thanks again.

I think it just illustrates how tight the competition is at the top. I went from 3 to 17 last month after an all-4s review. Seems to me you have to have consistent 4s and lots of 5s to stay in the TT. And the less reviews you have, the more a mediocre one affects your overall score.

Dont forget that because of the way the system works the 'average' score may have brought 1 or 2 particularly poor reviews into play, bringing down your average far more than that 1 would have done by itself.

I was a bit shocked to see your rapid fall Papa, esp with what looks to be a good piece. I think that charting after 4 reviews has also kicked in possibly with the resurregence of the NBA. I know one of my pieces charted after 6 reviews (I hadn't checked before) this has probably caused a bit of turn around. Your day will come, Papa.

If X is Mr Wrigley's creation then he ought to be thinking about writing the book 'THE WORLD ACCORDING TO XEAN' because there is a readership out there for it, if the hits on the MB are anything to go by.
