Hi everyone, Does anyone have a rough idea of how many words a synopsis should be when you submit to an agent? Thanks Victoria.

Best to check the agent's submission guidelines as they're all different. On average, no more than two pages - so about 600 words double-spaced or 1200 single-spaced. Some will ask for just one page though, which can be tough for a complex thriller! x

Write a nice full synopsis then save it with the word count in the title, then, shorten it and save it again. Keep doing this until you have a synopsis of just three sentences: then when you hit the agents, you can just give them whatever length they ask for. (Oh and write a few blurbs too.)

Perry's idea worked for me - I've got 5, 2 and 1 page synopses plus blurbs down to 50 words. But the agent/publisher will tell you what they expect. Good luck - I've always found a synopsis more difficult to write than a novel. http://cavalrytales.wordpress.com

Most agents prefer two to three pages for a synopsis. I write roughly around 1000 words for a synopsis and never had a complaint.
