Hello all, I've been looking at various reviews here on YWO and I've come to the conclusion that some reviewers seem to be reviewing as would be publishers and not as readers.

I have no problems with my own chapters, but I have seen a lot of reviews of others with, I don't think todays audience would read this or that.

Sorry, but that is down to the publisher, not reviewers on YWO.

Reviewers on here should give a review of the chapters with an unbiased point of view.

Weavers of tales enjoy getting the story over, that's why we upload our chapters for others to see.

So, please remember, not to put on your pretend publishers hat when doing a review.

I think some of the problmes with this type of review may have been from the newer members who should have a look at some reviews by those that have been around on YWO for a bit to get a feel for how it should be done.

As usual I don't expect others to agree with what I have said, but please review as a reader, NOT a publisher. Unless you are a real publisher!!!! Now that would be fun!

All the best.

I disagree.

Reviewers should apply the criteria set by YWO. However they are also writers, readers and purchasers of books. Their opinions are valid. They are your audience, those you seek to entertain.

Publication is important to many contributors (IMHO) so is a valid point to make.

If you disagree with a review - fine, but take the worthwhile bits and ignore the rest. This is a better approach than issuing diktats in the fora.

All the best, Stuart.

I'm split on the issue…

The problem with "publisher reviews" is that they are usually very medium/low in "stars" unless you've actually reworked it many times/have a knack at writing.
The problem with "reader reviews" is that they're either really good or really bad.

I know, for one, that I usually do the "reader" type, because I rarely give anything below 4 stars: anything and everything I read is enjoyable, entertaining, …, and I truly believe that I would read the whole thing if I had it in my hands.
The only cases where I've given 3 stars are when it could do with some reworking.

There are others, I know, who give three stars when I'd give 4.

That's just their way of appreciating a novel, I guess.
