16 Questions To Ask A Critique, and sometimes about a critique partner. Have I mentioned how much I like Emma Darwin's writing blog? Oh, I did? Just checking.

Yes, very interesting. I must stop telling people that there writing flows! But what are you supposed to say if it does flow?

I was surprised at that point because I can't remember reading that of mine or of anyone else's work on here. Now I suppose I'll see it everywhere.

I think it does mean something! Doesn't it suggest that the sentences are structured so well that the reading flows without any awkwardness or jarring? Very interesting, Lin - thanks. I've saved the site to Favourites.

Thanks for the link, Lin. It's a good one. And Karen, I think YWO should add a review category: 'flow'. I think Natalie Braine would add 'tone.' Neither suggestion is made in jest, although I suspect Ted has enough of suggestions.

Very interesting, Lin - thanks. I've saved the site to Favourites. Emma Darwin is probably talking about her own peer review experiences when she talks about 'flow', and I think certain chestnuts can evolve within a semi-closed environment like a writing group. I don't think anyone should avoid using the word 'flow' - what I got from her blog post was that if that's the only thing you can say about someone's writing, you're probably a beginner (and not much can be done about that, really, apart from sticking around). YWO, like any peer review site, has its own 'house style', in both writing and reviewing, and the same old things that crop up and up. It seems more obvious to me now that I'm back after a brief absence. I'm always happy to share links to Emma Darwin's blog because she seems to be one of the few authors who consistently talks about writing rather than publishing and promotion.
