If in the top five at the start of a month a story automatically goes to 'bestsellers'. This is tied to the programming from when the site started and the first five got critiques from the lit professionals at the time, including authors Martyn Bedford and Phil Whitaker.

The top 3 novels for a month get the longer critique. If, for example, you are number four or five, you get a mini-critique but can upload a new version after a few months to see if will qualify for a longer critique in top three. The mini-critiques, though brief, still enable writers to be read by editors who choose books for Random House and Orion.

.... How did the German school come to hear of your book?

It was through a half-English half-German girl I met years ago on the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Website. She showed The Mice of St Goran to a friend who is a school teacher in Germany, and it went on from there. I'm now hoping for some interest from English schools too: a couple of local teachers have just been in touch to ask for copies, and my step-niece, who teaches infants, has just taken some copies for her school up in London.
