Hey everyone,

I don't know if this has been posted here or not but just went to P&E's website and noticed they are being sued. They're asking for donations to help pay for their defense. Here's what they have to say:

Help Defend P&E

Unfortunately, there are those who do not like P&E or its editor because we give out information that they would prefer remain hidden from writers. Usually, they slink away, but not this time. P&E is being sued and we are asking for donations to mount a legal defense in court. Please click on the link below and give if you can to help protect P&E so it can continue to defend writers as it has for the past eleven years.

Here's the LINK: Preditors and Editors

I don't know about ya'll, but I use P&E all the time. I think it's an extremely helpful site. In fact, there don't seem to be many places out there that are so open and willing to help us poor defenseless writers. I am going to donate. Every little bit makes a difference. Even $5.00 will help if several people donated that small amount.

Anyone with me? If you can't donate money but you have a blog, you could probably help by posting the link on your blog and spreading the word.

But what are they being sued for? All I can find on their website is this: "P&E is being sued and we are asking for donations to mount a legal defense in court." Surely if they want people to contribute towards their defence, they do at least need to say what they've been accused of?

I thought I put a disclaimer above the posting. I guess I forgot to copy and paste it...My bad.

the lawsuit appears to have been brought on by Publish America and according to other blogs and forums, the lawsuit is ongoing. It was originally filed in 2008. I have not yet been able to confirm if the lawsuit is still active or if it has been closed/dismissed. I do sincerely apologize. I thought I had copied and pasted my notations that I was not sure if this information was current or accurate and that I am investigating. It was in my original 'post' I created in Word. I don't know what happened. User error I guess.

My natural inclination would always be to support the little guy against the big guy, but I would need to know what the fight is about.
This applies especially in the publishing world, since the various recent opportuinistic plagiarism claims against J K Rowling - in which, as far as I can see, the little guys were simply hoping that if they made enough nuisance of themselves, the big guy would chuck them a few hundred thou just to make them go away.
It does seem very strange that Preditors and Editors should be asking for financial support, but not saying what the case is about.

I don't think P&E were sued by PA, but by a lawyer who works for them, who sued P&E on his own behalf. I think it may have been for defamation.

P&E seem to have lost, but thtre's an appeal underway.
They should make this clear on their website and not assume everyone will know what it's about!
