Setting in novels - from one of the Orion editor critiques: "While setting is the backdrop to any story, in a novel like this that is set in an imagined world, the setting needs to come more to the foreground. The reader’s engagement lies in whether they become fully immersed in your fictional world and are able to suspend disbelief for the duration. So you need to build a backdrop that is believable, detailed, intriguing and vivid. And you need to transport the reader in a way where descriptive prose doesn’t overpower the narrative but is interwoven in a seamless yet evocative way." Click here to view the latest critiques
