I asked this question via the Next Big Author thread but as it's a moderated thread, the message vanished into the ether. Anyway, this was the gist. Given that anything, (other than the previous NBA postings) can be put up for the new competition, aren't we in danger of having a parallel TT with the same excerpts in it? Won't the charts be full of duplicates? And doesn't it mean we're likely to be reviewing chapters we've already read, as they don't even need to be revised versions?

I think the difference is that you have to actively register for NBA but there appears to be no discrimation either way & the "normal" chart would appear to continue with its main & mini critiques for those that haven't signed up for the NBA.
Only an "s" stands between laughter and slaughter.

Here's another question for ya.
I went to the link congratulating the winners of last month's Next Big Author.
Was I surprised:
Here's what I found -
"Congratulations to the five winners of The Next Big Author May 2011 Competition!
3. How To Start A Revolution by John Dylan
4. REDOUBT by Zoe Spencer"
BOTH of these are on the current top ten charts at number 12 & 13 respectively.
WHAT IS GOING ON?

Papa Stas, I think the winners were the five higest placed uploads which fulfilled the NBA criteria - new work, uploaded between the correct dates, registration with the NBA site - regardless of their actual chart position.
Don't quote me though!

Here we go again. Expect a barrage of poor reviews and pitiful scores followed by a barrage of complaints. I'm taking a break.

In the NBA competition the ten highest rated entrants from chapters uploaded between 17th July 2011 and 31st July 2011, as rated by youwriteon members, will be announced by youwriteon.com. The top three will be read by and receive an indepth critique of their opening chapters: either from Random House or Orion, and the other seven of the top ten highest rated opening chapters will be read by and receive a mini-review of their opening chapters from either Random House or Orion too. If a Next Big Author entry is also a top ten entry then it qualifies for one of the normal 3 longer critiques for novels in the top ten. This is because all critiques are funded for free by youwriteon and this is what the budget currently allows. The next entries outside of the top ten that qualify for the next big author receive the remainder of the 3 longer critiques for the next big author (if any), followed by the 7 mini reviews. If you are aiming for a pro crit in August, it might be a good idea to register for the NBA and re-upload your work. The charts are going to be rather full, methinks, with multiple uploads. Hey ho!
