Big and bombastic tales - huge fleets, epic themes and sweeping issues - the universe is the horizon. Boy scout stuff, (or was that just the era they mostly were written in?)

The style has lain low, with a couple of exceptions, since EE 'Doc' Smith wrote loads of them between the 40s and 60s - the Lensman series was probably the most epic.

You did a FWR on my current story - that one falls into the same category.

Your tale was excellent and hardly what I'd call bombastic.

Thanks for putting me in the picture. I quail at the word opera - soap opera, musical opera etc

By the way, what are you doing up so early ?

Well, bombastic was more the old style space opera - the new stuff is more subtle.

Yeah, opera is a bit misleading - but I suppose it's shorter than Space-Fiction-With-Rilly-Rilly-Fookin-Big-Space-Battles.

As to the early hour - work dear chap, three hours per day of making the local Uni look more presentable. Says on the contract that I'm an Estate Worker, but I just empty the bins and polish desks...[sigh!]

Perhaps I shouldn't let on to those out there whose stories I review - there again, maybe they might think a cleaner is a hit-man.

Am I allowed to recommend my own short stories?

Not here. Not the done thing, old chap, y'know?

But when it's languishing at place no 1 trillion on the Amazon listings, do what we all do. Shamelessly promote it anywhere and everywhere you can.
that's the difference. Recommending or promoting.

And while I'm here...my (rather good) website

You can't get draught lollipops, though.
