Quote: sarsen, Monday, 16 Jan 2012 14:01I've just reviewed Meggie Blackthorn by Elizabeth Jasper (she's one of us).
5 of 5 stars
I rarely read YA fiction; perhaps I should read more. 'Meggie Blackthorn' is a delightful story of a Tyneside lass growing up in the 60s. The atmosphere of her parents' and grandparents' homes, and the little shop is, for me, soaked in nostalgia. Those days are gone but Elizabeth Jasper has caught them and preserved them in a story that feels like a warm coat for a time just emerging from the chilled cheer that followed the end of war. There's lots of potential here for a sequel as Meggie journeys through puberty.
Thank you, Sarsen. The next in the series, 'Meggie Blue' is currently uploaded here on YWO. So far, so good!
