I recall last month hearing references to 'improvements being made to the site' at the beginning of May, particularly in the case of preventing the prevalence of timed-out reviews. I was just wondering if these new behind-the-scenes features had been implemented. If so, are we going to be told what they are, or will they just become part of the site's "magic"? I'm asking because during April my reviews were stagnant, and I only had 3 assigned reviews over the course of the whole month (despite always having 2 readers assigned). But this month, I've had five reviews over the course of the week. Was this a result of new features on the site, or was I just lucky/

... it's all statistics...  if you'd plotted review times for a whole year, you'd see a nice Gaussian curve shaping up. However, a flow plot would be nice, too, because we could see trends. You also could calculate your p values... ok... I shut up.

(PS, does anyone else think a newby's first five reviews shouldn't count?)

I think Eddd means the first five that newbies do, not the first five you get I don't know if it's still done practice, but I thought newbies used to get bestsellers for their first few reviews, so that whatever they said wouldn't make any difference - I know my first two were both best sellers, way back when I joined. I guess nowadays there are more newbies than chart entries though I hope the new changes kick in soon - but I would guess they are pretty complicated to check through before implelenting! JR

But, yes, maybe the first five could be moderated before they're allowed to go to the person they're intended for.

Sorry, you misunderstood. eddd's suggestion is that a new person (new to reviewing should read five assignments first before he messes up someones scores.
