I have been approached by Indigo Dreams Publications and have submitted some poetry to them which they have told me they will publish in their next issue.
Has anyone had any experience with these guys, Ronnie and Dawn, I believe? And how do you know if a new publisher/agent is worth the trouble to get to know?
I've heard some confusing things about the Annette Green agency too who approached me earlier. I mean should I just be wary of everyone? Or should I just be grateful to be approached?

Research is key, I think. Look on writer's websites as people very often share experiences. Absolute Write is a good one.

And if you receive an offer from an agent or a publisher, ask them lots of questions. Also ask if you can talk to some of their existing authors. If they won't let you, there's something up.

There's a useful blog post on the Greenhouse site on the sort of questions you might want to ask an agent. You need to scroll down to 'A Peach of an Agent.'

Mona, I agree with everything Cinnamon says. Also, check that an agent is a member of the Association of Authors' Agents. There's a similar organisation in the US.

As for the Annette Green agency (which IS a member of the AAA), they seem to have been trawling YWO, expressing interest, then dropping people, so it might be as well to be cautious.

Of course it's flattering to be approached, but one should be careful too. One does hear some horror stories!

Don't know anything about Annette but not to be confused with the Christine Green agency which is top-notch.

Also not to be confused with Greene & Heaton, another leading agency.

Thanks everyone. I did do some research before submitting, but really apart from their actual websites who can you ask?

I will look up the site you suggested, though. And they did give me the names of some of their other writers. I just thought since these agents and publishers are trawling YWO for writers, they must have approached others here before me.
Also, since there's no payment involved in poetry submission (there isn't is there?!), I didn't see the harm.

Just been looking at some other threads on multiple agent interest, it's very disheartening. When I finally get my ms finished, I'll be scared to death to submit it, incase they all make me quit writing altogether.
