Starts again from the beginning tonight on BBC2. From the opening credits, it's pure class. Don't. Miss. It.

Saw the first season on DVD.
Had no sympathy with any of the characters (except the redhead office girl - forgot her name).
Advertising methods were quite accurate but NO-ONE smoked that much. Draper's wife even puffed away during the washing up!
Ridiculous.
Liked the slightly 'Dubstep-stlye' theme tune though.

Somehow I wouldn't have expected you to like it.

Having worked in advertising in the 1970s, I can tell you that it was very near the truth, even by then. There were still hardly any female designers. The only women were secretaries and yes, people chain-smoked. Most campaigns were dreamt up in the pub and you could easily turn up for work to find everything had changed over a few drinks. It had got pretty seedy by then.

Have you been looking through my living room window again, Sue?

Now if you want something edgy and well written with characters that make you think, check out 'Breaking Bad'.

I am a BIG, BIG fan of Breaking Bad. Also of Justified. But Madmen really developed over the 3 series. It was my luxury of the week!

Never heard of Breaking Bad (sounds like someone did a big smelly one to me), Justified is AWESOME and Madmen Blah (didn't translate well in New Zealand like 30 Rock-not funny).

Perhaps advertising hasn't reached New Zealand yet?

Only kidding. I think you got it a while back.

The Madmen episode with the lawnmower is enough to put anyone off Topiary!

Did anyone see Deadwood, great series even if you aren't keen on 'westerns'.

Does the US do drama series much better than us now? You also get a large number of episodes ... Sherlock was pretty good but three episodes?

I'm in Singapore now. In relation to watching any programmes here if there is anything juicy in the slightest or there are swear words it will be censored to death. Sort of sucks, not only because they are usually the best bits, but you're often left wondering what the shit has happened when a scene cuts because of this. I've given up watching True Blood here and hardly watch tv now. I'd rather read a book where it can't be censored.

The second one was weak, but the other two were good. And yes, I do think the US does the series better than us now. HBO produce some wonderful TV, and The Wire is probably the best ever. But we've got Shooting Stars and The IT Crowd, so all is not lost.

I haven't come across anyone else who saw the French series The Spiral. That was riveting.
