Hello guys...

Is anyone else going to the London Book Fair this year?

I was wondering about going. Have you been before, and what do you get out of it, apart from jealousy that it's not yet your book they're promoting of course!

Hi Carlielee. I'm down at The London Book Fair on the 15th April, just for the day. Are you there for the three days? Going to get around as many of the Children's publishers as I can, leaving examples of my Illustration work. But going to attach some of my writing too.

For anyone thinking of going, it's a great opportunity to see who is publishing what. The entrance fee is £25 pre-booked and I think £35 on the day. But that would cover you for the 3 days. They'll be hundreds of publishers there from all over the world. For those who can't make it, if you Google, The London Book Fair, it will come up with the site and list all the publishers taking part. It'll take you days to check out all their sites!

Heyho,
I'm going with my day-job hat on, but I did wonder what would happen if I just leapt out the closet and screeched 'I'm an author'.
Quite a scary prospect.

Can't you trot round as an author in your lunch break? Lightly disguised, possibly?

I'm trying to arrange to go on the 14th - it's my day off work but, living in the sticks, getting to London is a bit of a pain - will have to call in some favours! Anyone else there on that day?

I'll be working on the Pen Press stall. You're all most welcome to pop by and say hello.

I've been to the website and it looks as though anyone from the writerly side of the tracks would be severely discouraged from going - as someone on the inside, would you say that this is the case? I've always thought that information is everything in most fields, so I'd love to wander round, and it can't but help a writer to see what's on people's lists, but I don't want to be kicked out as an interloper (I used to work in Flooring and attend all the major shows - I know how terrible it would have been if, perish the thought, a customer had snuck in)!

If people are going to be in London for the Book Fair how would people feel about idea of having a YWO lunch - at an agreed time in an agreed pub carrying an agreed means of identification like a pink hat or an electric blue carnation, to which people could come or not?

Heya,

We're in on the tuesday, be ace to meet up with any YWO-ers.
Tommi, I wouldn't worry about being an interloper...I had to do the LBF and Frankfurt as a student, and everyone was really friendly and helpful. I think it really helps an author's work to understand the industry and get a feel of any trends starting up.

Lexi, I have a serious problem with my voice. No matter what I look like, I still sound like a mouse on helium.

Carlie, we must never meet. We'd be a comedy turn. I tend towards the gravelly and husky.
