I am trying to upload kindle version of my novel & everything seems to be fine in the Kindle Preview, except in a few places there are random left justify problems when a paragraph goes over a page. Sometimes they disappear if you change the viewing font size, other times they persist. The original Word document was saved as webpage ie HTML and that was what was uploaded. None of these problems appear in the webpage version. I can't seem to get an answer from the Kindle community and I can't edit the html myself. The mobi software programme we are encouraged to use doesn't seem compatible with macs and that's what I'm on. Any suggestions? Thanks Marc Thanks

I can't claim to be an expert 'cause I've only uploaded what was effectively a short story (The History of Rock and Roll in 99 tweets), but that caused problems anyway because of the non-standard formatting. I'm assuming you've gone through the Jill Williamson youtube vids step by step? ( Kindle Formatting part one) The only other thing I can suggest is taking a look at the Smashwords Style Guide - which is available on their site as a free reference. It's comprehensive. It sounds like you have a stray bit of code in there, which is causing the glitch. There's good chance the kindle community will get back to you in time. Keep bumping the query? Good luck anyway - you'll get there, everyone does eventually. Bloody frustrating though!

Word keeps all sort of rubbish in the background. You have two options. 1 Start again (not the writing). Copy the document into a .txt file (no formatting) save it. Copy it back into a NEW word doecument, then reformat it with the minimum amount of formatting. ie set up one or two header formats, a single paragraph format and then apply these to the whole document. 2 Leave it as is and just edit the problems in the html code. If you like you can send me the html code and point out a couple of places where the problem occours and I (should) be able to edit it. perry@hexult.com

Happy to run a word .doc through my copy of mobi and see what comes out of the other end for you.
Longer term fix might be to acquire a copy of windows to run as a virtual machine on your MAC - I know this is an awful suggestion to a Macophile, but the VM stuff really works and doesn't cause your nice Mac apps any problems.
Drop me an email if you want me to process a file for you.
