Hello everyone!

Have you read Kathryn Stockett's THE HELP?

That has to be the most enjoyable novel I read this year. And from a technical point of view, THE HELP is a masterclass in how to tell a gripping story from several different voices.

I wonder how other readers of this novel feel about this.

And for those of us who haven't yet discovered the genius of Kathryn Stockett, I recommend you start now! It will be an amazing and rewarding experience. I have rarely cried and laughed as much as I did while reading THE HELP.

I read The Help recently. It was okay. I felt I should like it. I'd read a lot of the reviews and friends had recommended it to me. It took a while to get into, at least 100 pages. I wanted to get a red pen out and do a bit of pruning, but I read it on my Kindle so that was out! I felt the characters were a little underdeveloped. Otherwise it was a reasonable enough read. Had the first 7,000 words been on here anonymously, I would have given it a mix of 3's and 4's!

WOW! I hope I never get a review from you!
I have to say that I loved The Help, and found the writing style so artfully handled that I fell into the book immediately without any of those annoying little 're-writes' that I find myself doing occasionally. I thought it a great example of how powerful First Person POV can be in the right hands.
But opinion is subjective, and writers of every genre benefit from it, and often very well.

No worries. lol. I was quite a kindly so and so but due to lack of time I no longer review. I'm always willing to help off-site though if anyone wants advice about going down the Indie route.

I've just read elsewhere that 'The Help' was turned down by 60 agents before finding one to take it on - apparently.

It seems every success has a story of failure behind it.

Reminds me of the Michael Jordan advert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45mMioJ5szc
I deleted my sig.
