So I'm reading my first ever Ruth Rendell (don't judge; I picked it up in WH Smith for 99p - the DAILY NEWSPAPER I went in to buy was ONE POUND FIFTY, but that's another thread.)

It's called The Water's Lovely and I'm enjoying it. The central act is a murder in a bath (tub, for our US cousins) and the bath is described in detail. Rendell specifically states that the taps are on the long side of the bath. Fast forward 100 pages and she describes someone simulating the murder in the very same bath. She categorically states that the character stands at the end of the bath WHERE THE TAPS ARE.

WHOOPS.

And her a peer of the realm....

Shit like that drives me crazy. It's a careless mistake, and where's the editor?
