My kids are nearly back at school after 3 months of summer holidays. Three months where I haven't been able to write because:

- I can only write in the morning.
- I can only write in a cafe.
- I can only write after a short walk to a cafe to clear my brain.
- Apart from the odd jotting of notes when my muse grabs me, I can only write on a computer.

I've won a competition to have a first chapter submitted to an editor and had to put off sending it for another month because of this.

Am I fussy? Are you able to write anytime, anywhere? Tell me about it.

yep, on buses, tube trains, in the bath, on my bed - I don't have a desk.

In the good old days when buses had conductors who issued you tickets from their clipper machines, i used to cover them in notes or snippets of dialogue
"A,B&E", "Not In My Name" and "52FF" (flash fiction anthology) all available on Amazon Kindle

I write everywhere. Keep paper and pen by the bed, take it into the kitchen with me when I'm cooking, write on the train, in cafes, in the garden, even sometimes take pen and paper when I have a bath, in case I think of something.

It's not so much that I'm dedicated - more that I think of a word or phrase and, if I don't write it down immediately, it disappears. I can't write after alcohol though or with the TV on.

I like to have a block of time so that I'm not rushed - even if it's not more than say half an hour. I used to prefer to write in pen or biro but now I prefer to write straight onto the computer. I kind of keep writing in my head during the day (maybe at night too whilst trying to sleep and not managing it) and let thoughts and feelings brew up. At times of' stuckness' I write quickly onto paper or do a mind map of thoughts that come to me from a central word.

I write best first thing in the morning and early evening. In the morning, my head is clear and I can work out all those niggly bits that have been bugging me. Early evening, my creative juices flow, along with the wine! By late evening, I still believe I'm writing brilliantly, but morning dawns along with the stark truth that I have, in fact, been spouting drivel. Much like when I'm in the pub and believe I've spent the night being terribly witty and erudite, but have actually spent the last hour slurring into the ear of the landlord's German Shepherd.

I used to only write longhand. Now I can only write on a computer.

I get much less writing done suring summer (unless it's raining) as I'd rather be in the garden doing stuff. Or outside a pub. Slurring into the ear of the landlord's German Shepherd.

Finding it impossible to write or review at the moment. Father-in-law's got advanced pancreatic cancer and could die at anytime. My wife is an only child who is still recovering from a nervous breakdown a few years ago.

Generally I write on my laptop, with a glass of cider, red wine or lager, in front of the telly.

Hey, Draig. I know how hard it is to watch people struggling. But you are helping just by being there - truly. Look after yourself too.

I need peace to write. I get soooo crabby if I'm disturbed.
I deleted my sig.

Hi Draig, truly sorry to hear about your troubles. My best to you and your wife and her dad. As Chickin said, do take care of yourself - you need all the strength you have. I hope the writing helps. It has helped me a lot in times when my family have been going throught it - still are truth be told. All the best, Catherine

Thanks Catherine. Yes, it's something we will all go through from time to time, but I'm new to it. Best wishes to you, Glen.

Thanks Gail. Can't imagine you being crabby.
