Just discovered that a few members, ex and current, of YWO have their books featured on this site. Turnip's is there under the guise of Ruby Barnes, mine, Harry's, Lisa Hinsley's and Danny Gillan's. There is also a guest blog spot featuring Turnip, which might give you a laugh as you'll all relate to the content. Featured books and Turnip's guest spot!

I particularly like the elephant's hole! Might chance my hand at the short story competition.

I mentioned this site recently on the Flash Fiction thread. It's worth a look, and so is their competition. The peer review article is fun and does strike a chord. You have to know when it's time to trust your own judgement. DC

Quote: AntCity, Wednesday, 16 Nov 2011 18:32What's an elephant? Some sort of oversized pet? All I know is that the Carthaginian elephant was a degenerate remnant of the Zambezi fauna. There, my obscure schooling finally put to use.

All I know is that the Carthaginian elephant was a degenerate remnant of the Zambezi fauna. There, my obscure schooling finally put to use. That's interesting . . . I often wondered about them. This from Wikipedia: The North African Elephant (Loxodonta africana pharaoensis) was a possible subspecies of the African Bush Elephant (Loxodonta africana), or possibly a separate elephant species, that existed in North Africa until becoming extinct in Ancient Roman times. These were the famous war elephants used by Carthage in the Punic Wars, their conflict with the Roman Republic. Although the subspecies has been formally described,[1][2] it has not been widely recognized by taxonomists. Other names for this animal include the North African Forest Elephant, Carthaginian Elephant, and Atlas Elephant. Originally, its natural range probably extended across North Africa and down to the present Sudanese and Eritrean coasts. Harry

A big mammal that takes longer than a human to gestate and lives a shorter time than a Galapagos tortoise. There's evolution for you.

Harry Back when I was a nipper, my grandpa had a joke that went like this; Question. "What's the difference between an elephant and a letter-box?" Expected Answer. "I don't know, what is the difference between an elephant and a letter-box?" Response. "That's the last time I send you to post a letter." I still don't get it.

Wasn't something profound written about six blind men in a room with an elephant? Or was that six writers?
Sigmund Freud: "The Irish are one race of people for whom psychoanalysis is of no benefit whatsoever."
