Hi.

I have just created an author Facebook page (as opposed to a personal one). For those of you who are more established authors (or Facebook regulars) or just really nice people, I would appreciate any tips on how to make it more interesting for fellow writers and (someday let's hope) fans.

The link is here:

Bill's Author Facebook page

I'm really quite a clutz and dunce when it comes to this stuff, so any suggestions on how to make it better, more visible, "cooler" would be greatly appreciated.

I similarly just joined as an author on Goodreads - for those who know the lay of the land there:

Goodreads - Bill

This slightly slow-witted fellow thanks you in advance for any suggestions.

All the best,

Bill

Hi Bill, I just had a look at your FB page and it looks impressive to me. I'm thinking of doing the same as I'm just awaiting the proof copy of my first novel published via FeedARead. I love the cover image on the 'Lenin' book btw. Is Martyn Bedford a freelance designer or is he employed by your publisher? Best of luck with your sales.

If it's a cover designer you're after, look no further than the talented JD Smith. Jane is the editor of the Words With Jam e zine and has designed many covers for YWO members past and present. Link to her website below. Just drop her a line for more info.

Bill, if you ask people to "like" your facebook page it helps. I've added a like to it, so I'm the first, and the same on Goodreads, I've added you as a friend there and you'll need to confirm it, and become a "fan". It's a start. If you get to so many likes on FB it gives the page some sort of status, but I'm not too sure what as I'm just getting to grips with author pages too.

Hi! Thank you very much for the FB page look and feedback.

Martyn Bedford is a writer not a designer. He's not employed by my publisher. He was kind enough to read a draft of "Lenin's Harem" and comment on it.

Hi Pam! Thanks for the liking, and friending, and fandom. I've confirmed our friendship (sounds strange), though I need to become your fan (in Goodreads, of course. In reality, I already am.)

Yes, getting all these things up is a bit of a challenge. Thanks for taking a look. I am still working on how to get people to these pages. I guess lots of time on message boards and blogging is the way. When do I write the fiction???

All the Best,

Bill

I'd like to add you as a friend on FB, Bill but don't know how to do that. I have left you message though. Catherine

Pam and Catherine (and Jonathan too, if you are YWO person):

Thanks for the posts and liking. I'm so new to this, I don't yet know how to properly reciprocate. As I have an author page, not a personal page, there seems to be different rules on replying, friends, etc.

Pardon me while I get up to speed.

Hi Pam. I can't seem to add you as a Fan on Goodreads because it looks like you have a regular page, not an author page (though I might be completely clueless here). If you set up an author page (as you are so prolific you most certainly should consider it) I will return the "fandom".

On Facebook I'm still confused. As I have an author page I can't have friends, only likes, and I can't seem to like people only things... my brain is hurting...

I just didn't want you, Catharine (and everyone) to think I am not trying to reciprocate the nice networking. I'm clueless not evil.

Best, Bill

Bill, good luck with deciphering your author page on FB. Sorry I can't help, but it's looking good so far. Great cover. I've been considering a FB author/regular page for a while now and trying to work out how I'd use it. I hope you get time to post your discoveries on this thread. I, for one, would be interested to know what you make of it - I'm sure others would too. Best of luck!
