Hello,
Has anybody ever submitted to The People's Friends or Woman Weekly? I know they're mainstream but they're generally well written and, well, a little bit of money would be nice...
I'd just like to know what your experience was like if you have.
Ta.

I haven't but I believe Sally Zigmond, who runs the fantastic blog The Elephant in the Writing Room, has had a number published with both http://theelephantinthewritingroom.blogspot.com/

Yes I had a short story published in Peoples Friend in 2010. Wasn't happy that the ending was changed/ruined - bizarre editing - as well as the title.

I submitted a short story to PF last year, they had it three months then sent it back wanting a different ending. That would have meant changing the whole story structure and then it wouldn't have been the story it was or the one I wrote. I submitted it to Pages of Stories, they loved it, it was the 2nd best voted story that month and I got paid very promptly with more than I would have got from PF. They're not always right.

Never got around to submission, but applied for the guidelines. They have quite rigid requirements No moaning, sex, (there is a comma there) if old people then they must be happy and fiesty. no infidelity,
They don't pay as high as other magazines, but if you have stories of the ilk give them a try. I like occasionally challenging myself to move off genre and do a short story.
I've used http://womagwriter.blogspot.com/ to check out guidelines.

I was once given advice on the difference between womens magazines. Cosmopolitan tells you how to have a better orgasm. Woman's Own tells you what an orgasm is. Peoples' Friend tells you how to knit one.

Laurie I have had two stories published by My Weekly. But the last story I submitted to them, I recieved a reply that their guidlines had changed, and to submit by a form on their page. I did, last year, and have had no reply.
