I'm considering going down the Kindle route. I've been told it's best to find an editor. How much would it cost for a 90,000 word book, and where do I start with finding a good editor?

Best to get recommendations. I did not and the man took a year instead of the 6 weeks he advertised.

Do you want just a technical editor or someone who will re-write the whole thing?

Technical, proofreading, that sort of stuff. Not interested in someone changing my structure or the characters.

Rate suggested by Society for Editors and Proofreaders, and National Union of Journalists, is around the £20 mark for proofreading. Slightly more for copy editing.

Try these people, they are recommended by Eve White Agency, although a cynic might wonder if there is a connection. . .still their prices are clearly set out along with each service and timetable, as it were,

I think they offer more editorial and consultancy, rather than proofreading, which I think is more what is needed ...

That sounds very high. A journalist sub-editor is more £14-15 an hour
"A,B&E", "Not In My Name" and "52FF" (flash fiction anthology) all available on Amazon Kindle

"A journalist sub-editor is more £14-15 an hour." Though often they will be on a mininum number of hours contract arrangement. Freelancers charge, or supposed to charge only for time spent.
I edit medical texts for between €25 and €32 per hour.
Mr Edit might be worth a shout - partly depends on genre too. And I've heard good things said about Bubble Cow too.
