I've just asked for a new reading assignment, and got the following message: Sorry, but a book cannot be assigned to you at the moment. One of the following may be the case :-
You already have the maximum of three Reading Assignments. Once you reach the maximum, you will have to review one of your assignments before requesting another. You have completed six Reading Assignments in the last 24 hours. You will have to wait a while before requesting more assignments. No books are currently available which have Reading Credits attached to them. You have reviewed and rated every book on YouWriteOn ! There are always new books arriving however, so please check back soon. I've only got two assignments. I've only completed three in the last 24 hours, not six. So either I've reviewed everything on YWO, or nobody (except me) is currently waiting for their work to be reviewed. Come on, chaps, put up a reading credit. I'm desperate for reviews on my new book, which has been unassigned for about 24 hours now, and I understand the way to get assigned quickly is to complete lots of reviews quickly, but I can't if nobody's asking for any. (Makes a change from the usual complaint about lack of reviews, doesn't it?)

I just waited over 48 hours for my story to be assigned, so I think lack of reviewers is the problem, not things to review!

So why can't I have it? I want to review something! Please! At this rate I may be reduced to reviewing one of the two that I have got, rather than ditching them this evening (ie as soon as I'm allowed to) - but one is a really nasty horror story and the other was just so dull and the characters all so unattractive that I'm afraid gave up half way through. I simply cannot think of anything to say about either of these two pieces that could be of the slightest use to their authors, so it does seem such a waste of their reading credits for me to review them.

Hmm, vicious circle methinks. Person 1 waiting to ditch two that you don't fancy, so that's two that other people can't review until you're able to remove them. Person 2 looking for a review, can't get a reviewer. Person 3 hasn't assigned any credits but has 7 in the bank (me). I know! Athene, those 2 that you're sitting on - they are yours to review. They deserve the review. Shouldn't you tell them why you don't like their piece? They can always remove your review if they don't like it. Not me, is it? No, I don't have any credits assigned. Now, have to ditch a review because I can't read the text, it's blank! Asked Ted 'what's the story Ted' but he hasn't come back on that one.
Back to my roots.

I've had two 'no-shows' recently. The first one I sent a message about - got nothing back. The second I just rejected. Is anybody there????
Miaow.

I don't like the horror story because I think it's repulsive and thoroughly nasty. Anyone who would read something like that for pleasure must, in my opinion, be sick in the head. I don't like horror stories, full stop. I would never buy a book of horror stories. So what possible use can my opinion be? The main thing about the other one is that it's so dull I can't bear to finish it. So I probably wouldn't pass the reading test anyway. So sorry, no way am I going to upset two YWO members by giving them useless and entirely negative reviews simply because I need a reading credit.

I also got the "can't have another book assigned to you" message a few nights ago, yet I had space for another and like Athene, two I couldn't possibly do an honest review for, yet I was stuck with them until the following day. It's such a pleasure to get a really good story to review, even in a raw state, a gem can shine through that grabs you from start to finish.

Oooh, Pam! You've got a face, and a pretty one too. How come everyone's puttting their photo up all of a sudden? I think it's great, I like to see the face behind the words.

If you get it right, I'll post the link to a photo of me in my garb from my last reading in Euston... (Talk about incentive eh?)
