Here I am sticking my newbie credentials out from under the bushel again - but I am confused by the new charts. How come we lost 5 or 6 books from the top ten but the number 11 and 12 (and possibly lots of others but I can only remember what was a 11 & 12) didn't move up? How is it that some of the new Top Ten seem to have 'leapfrogged'. XX

yep, you need to have attached a credit within the last 7 days for a book to enter the Top Ten. Then another within every 7 days to keep it there. So leapfrogging can occur of high scorers that haven't attached a credit within the last 7 days.

The ones stuck at 11 & 12 probably have too few or too many words to qualify for the top ten. Further chapters don't qualify either. Just shorts of 2,000-5,000 words and novel openings up to 7,000 words.

ps the titles that achieved Best Seller status have been removed and are now in the BS list. See the left hand panel.

looks like 11 has too few words and 12 is outside the 7 day credit.
Sue, is it still possible to upload a novel with less than 7000 words?

No, it has to be exact.

(I expect the minimum is 2,000, but the max is 7)

I uploaded a novel of less than 7,000 words, (about 4,250) and it's currently at no 18 in the charts. So I'm thinking that it would not get into the top ten? I thought the limits for a novel were 5,000 - 7,000 words? Anyway was surprised it showed up in the charts, but I guess the word limit only applies to the top ten? This is a convoluted way of saying that if a novel opening is less than the 5,000 minimum, does that still count?

Edit: just read Sue's post, so I guess that was answered?

Conclusion: Novels under or over the limit show up in the top 20, but not the top 10.

Always On My Mind is less than 7,000 words and that's a Best Seller now and my other two novels are at 17 with less than 7,000 words. You can't get it exact. It's supposed to be UP TO 7,000 words to to qualify for top-ten.
