I'm a print Luddite

I prefer print too, but if the Kindle gets people reading more books, I'm all for it.

Do you think it gets more people reading? I don't. To me it's all about lifestyle & convenience for the elect, who are more likely to be readers anyway let's face it. Penetration among the working classes? Can't see it myself.
"A,B&E", "Not In My Name" and "52FF" (flash fiction anthology) all available on Amazon Kindle

I've read a few self-published extracts on various sites (traditional and e-published) and without exception they needed editing. Not just simple stuff either, but major structural changes in many cases.

I agree with Sulcus. The proliferation of poor quality just confirms booksellers' and publishers' suspicions that all SP works are tat. OK - so's Katie Price, but they know that for some strange reason she'll sell thousands.

But I think the Kindle's here to stay. E-publishing certainly is, and trying to read a book on a laptop is torture. Shame really, but there it is.

It doesn't help when people on the Amazon self-pubbing discussion sites are offering to edit books for others. One person offers her services and to be honest, I've seen a sample of her work for one of her clients, it leaves a lot to be desired. They'd be better off joining YWO and picking up ideas from reviewers. Also, the cost of the books from Lulu and Author House is horrendous, and I don't just mean the publishing costs. One such book is 120 pages, published by Lulu and the RRP is £13.87. So expensive. Unless a book is written and presented to a decent, readable standard, who is going to buy it at that price?

I have a book on Lulu, 100 pages priced at 3 pounds 27p. That is the minimum I can sell it for and make not a penny from a sale. The author sets the price, the postage for my book, however is 4 pounds. Now THAT is disgusting.

I hate reading from a laptop. Is reading from a kindle any better?

Why have you chosen to price it so you make no money? Or have I misunderstood what you're saying?
