Despite having the No. 1 true ghost stories site on the web, I just cannot sell a single copy of my new ebook, CELEBRITY GHOST STORIES. Thousands of people visit my site every day - yet I can't make one single sale of this book. I thought anything marked with the tag "celebrity" was a surefire magnet these days. To judge by the dismal performance of my ebook, I was obviously wrong! I have even put it on the Myebook.com site too, and even there, despite being viewed many times, the book still won't sell. Does anybody know where I am going wrong here? Have I picked the wrong subject, or what? I thought ebooks were a good way of making money. Can anybody re-encourage me about that notion, and perhaps suggest a more profitable subject to write an ebook about? Thanks Alan Webmaster http://www.trueghoststories.co.ukwww.trueghoststories.co.uk

I think it needs "sexed up" a bit - who exactly are the celebrities? Can't you tease your online visitors with a summary of one or two of the stories? Very hard on the basis of what you're presenting online to see what is actually on offer here. With the greatest respect, I don't believe ghosts exist, and I WISH celebrities didn't, so I'm not really your demographic !! Good luck though!
My story, 'An Encounter' - as improved by YWOers - is available in this anthology: Speech Bubble Magazine Best Of Issues 1, 2 & 3 ebook

also you might let the reader 'look inside', with some excerpts.

Written by the 'Webmaster'! Haven't you got a name? It sounds as though its a fantasy book. If it's a proper ebook, present it as such. Although its on the front page of the site, you don't make much of it. It doesn't jump out at you and say 'Buy me'!

I reckon ebooks are much like real books - unless you hit exactly the right spot at exactly the right time, your offering is doomed to float amongst the gazillions of tat-e-books out there in the ether. The only people who seem to make money out of ebooks are those who write ebooks about how to make money out of ebooks. Anyone here made money out of an ebook? Come on now - don't be shy! My Blog

Are the stories about ghosts of dead celebrities, or celebrities telling about their ghost encounters? Frightening stories? Comic actor Flip Wilson bought a house in Malibu that was inhabited by ghosts of famous actors of bygone days. Had dinner with them of an evening and enjoyed their company. Said he was never going to leave that house, when he died he would join his friends there. I found that interesting and rather touching.
But of course you would be writing about British ghosts and celebrities, right? What's the slant? Personally, I would change the title to reflect the stories inside, and leave out "celebrity". Scary? Friendly? Faintly visible but unaware? A variety of encounters?
Maybe something like: Encounters on the Borderline: Ghosts and the Famous.

Thanks Alan Webmaster http://www.trueghoststories.co.ukwww.trueghoststories.co.uk Hi Alan, That's a tough one, sorry to hear it. I'm no expert on e-books, but I've been a reader for decades now. Despite being an engineer and working in high tech for a good part of my life, I've never purchased an e-book (and pretty much dislike reading anything not in book format, I know that's a bit old-fashioned of me). Something about it doesn't feel right. I'm happy to use any other high tech gadget, but e-books feel at cross-purposes to me. Maybe it's a generational thing, maybe it's a personal thing, I don't know. But I get the feeling that if you did some research, you'd move this forward. I'd suggest finding out who reads e-books, demographics, locations, age groups, income, what genres are big, which ones aren't, what format sells and where. I'd even go so far as to discover the most popular and best-selling e-books and contact the authors asking them for advice. They might say 'no', they might say 'get lost', but they just might help, never know. I'd also give potential viewers a taster, not everyone likes to buy something without sampling it. Lastly, and think about this carefully, think outside the box on how you sell this thing. This might be an option and it's probably what I would do if all else failed: give it away. Sounds crazy? Maybe. Just add a caveat that if the reader enjoyed the book that you'd appreciate a donation (you make a suggested donation) in return, sort of like the 'sell or return' policy all bookshops operate with publishers. If you're not selling anything anyway, then what have you got to lose? Food for thought. Good luck. Rob

There is an obvious flaw in the selling of your ebook. You don't say what people are buying. What do I get for my £2? I have an ebook reader, it uses .fb2 - What are the chances your ebook is in that format. My guess is that your ebook is actually a pdf, but who's going to buy it on the off chance it will work on their reader. It's a bit like selling a film and not saying whether it's vhs, betamax, 8mm dvd, blu-ray. When you buy it, what happens? Do you download it? what happens if I loose my internet connection? Do you email it? Post it? Tell me EXACTLY what I'm buying, and assure me, you have a back up plan in place should I encounter a technical problem.

My ebook contains a mixture of apparitions of deceased celebrities, and celebrities who have experienced the paranormal (e.g. stayed in a haunted house). Unfortunately, due to the constant negativity displayed towards it that has been reflected in ZILCH sales, I have now taken it off the site, and gone back to the drawing board trying to think up another idea for how to monetise the HUGE amount of traffic my True Ghost Stories site is getting. Perhaps I should just concentrate on my horror novel?
