That's it 42 rejections is enough for me. They're trying to tell me something. If it's that my book isn't good enough, not one of them was kind enough to mentioned it.
So I've sent off my cheque today for 10 ISBN's. I thought I'd feel like a failure self-publishing, but it feels like a relief. I'm even more excited.

Before you ask, I'm not POD publishing, vanity publishing or using YWO. I am both epublishing and dead-tree publishing.

Obviously, it's a steep learning curve. I could waffle on for days about covers, prices, profit margins etc. Just ask if there's anything you want to know. I'm conscious of not wanting to bore people with things I think are interesting (As I learnt from the first draught of my book!)

Hmm, I don't need all 10, but they will all be registered to me and my publishing company (That's a laugh). If you're happy to publish under the large internationally recognised publishing company of 'Skymirror Publishing'*, I don't see why not.

*There are a lot of publishing companies out there, you try to find a name that has not been taken.

Perry, before you go ahead with this, I would strongly urge you to employ an editor. You can only edit your own work up to a point and it would be heartbreaking and embarrassing to spend the money, commit to paper, and then find the reviews mention easily edited problems. It will be money well spent.
the long and the short of it

Don't worry Sue.
My idea's are good, but my writing is not that good. I teamed up with a friend who happens to be an editor early on. She has since re-written the book twice. Denna (Dholm) from YWO, gave us an in depth mark up, and currently it is out with a few people for a final check.

Currently we are working on the kindle version. It has a different cover, as it needs to be simpler, to view on the small scale of Amazon.
After converting the word document, I went through the HTML conversion by hand and manually re-coded every chapter heading to appear in the middle as opposed to left-justified.

We are being careful.

Perry -your book is aimed at children, isn't it? I would think very carefully about whether this is the best route for your work. The children's market is a very tough nut to crack.

Plus, you need to factor in that very few children have e-readers right now. If your book is aimed more at the YA paranormal romance market, e-publishing might be worth a shot, but looking at your book, I don't think this is the case?

But good luck with it if you decide to go for it.

My book is aimed at 13 year olds, but in reality covers a broad spectrum (I've had good feedback from 20-somethings) I am aware that this age group have a smaller than average take up of the kindle, but on the other hand I know of a number of 15-16 year olds that have ipads.

I am printing my own paperbacks to sell to local schools and through my own shops and whilst self-publishing, I may as well epublish; there is no investment (other than time) and so there is no reason why I shouldn't give it a go.

Also I notice there are quite a number of young children's stories available, I don't suppose many toddlers have a kindle either, but if you are a parent, you will try anything to encourage you're children to read. I would bet that any parent who has a kindle has at least one book on it aimed either for their child to read, or to read to them. I hope my book will appeal to adults who are looking for books to encourage their children to read as it has no sex or vampires in it (Which is fairly rare these days!)
