Huh! Loaded book trailer up to YouTube about 5 hours ago with masses of tags, including username, book title, author and damned if I or anyone else can find it by searching. Youtube loading was easy and put automatic links to Twitter and Facebook and I uploaded the trailer onto my blog (http://www.mesmered.wordpress.com) and the web-builder is uploading to my website as I write this, but surely the purpose of YouTube is to spread the word above and beyond those who already know you exist. Any ideas anyone?

I can access Youtube via Twitter ( Watch this trailer for The Stumpwork Robe by @pruebatten http://youtu.be/ivQK4AAVZrc Then rush out and buy the books.) which all seems a bit convoluted. But folks if you can find it, have a look and do comment.

Cheers

Prue, some of the stills look amazing, like paintings in a gallery, but some also whizz past a bit too quickly. Let the viewer's eye linger a touch longer.

Also, from the trailer, I wouldn't really know what the book was about. Yes I know the themes from the captions, but I feel you need something just to fix the book a little more in the viewer's mind - it looks sumptuous, but what tells the viewer the book is also sumptuous? I always feel you need a line or two from the book - either captioned, or voicedover depending on the style of the vid. Let's hear the main character's 'voice' - one line is all it will take. That tells the viewer the style of the book.

Hope this is of some use.

Thanks Marc, the speed is all to do with downloadability as a slow download frustrates most viewers. This is the professional advice I obtained. In addition, there are two lines there from the book . . .
its just that they are not in quotes, which is a mistake I agree. But too late to fix as the video is produced and the upload done.

I wanted an enigmatic feel, I wanted it to be sumptuous because its been quoted as 'like reading a piece of silk'. As for revealing all . . . I'm not sure I agree. The info on Youtube leads straight to Amazon where there are Looks-Inside. You have to draw the line in the sand somewhere financially and enticingly.

Whatever the case, its been tremendous fun to work on with the professional team that did it and it gave me material for my blog (http://mesmered.wordpress.com), bringing in quite a wide audience which Fate smiling, brings in readers. And has given me masses of practice in engaging with a virtual (in all senses of the word) audience, for better or worse.

I wasn't suggesting you reveal all, just give a taste of the style.

I've shot mine, but they need to be edited together as they involve a voiceover by an actress. Can't wait to see what they look like. Bit perturbed by what you say about download speeds. I've never had this problem up till now.

Hi Sulcus,

My brother produced my trailer. He is a seasoned cameraman, world east current affairs and documentaries, and now is a working director of a post production company, working on a number of the major commercial programmes in Australia, so I trust his advice.

Download issues are obviously variable depending on every household's server. Some are good, some are not . . . the longer the download the more peeved many get and move on. That's what I was told from Marketing anyway and it makes sense. I move on rapidly if a download is delayed. My time is precious, as is everyone's.

You are so lucky having an actor read you words . . . I wanted Stephen Fry or Richard Armitage . . . hmmm! I look forward to seeing yours. Thanks for taking time out to check mine out.
