The Breakthough - The Making and Breaking of a Career.

Makes interesting, if depressing, reading. So does the discussion going on about it.

P.S. Can someone tell me how to get the link thing to work, please?

Hope you don't mean mine, Micheal! lol. You've got a great start to your career. I wish you all the best. Can't wait to read Apocalypse Cow in its entirety. I read the opening chapters on here a while ago and really enjoyed them. It's a sad state of affairs for that poor author though and just goes to show that landing an agent and publisher isn't always the pot of gold its made out to be. The bad thing is, she can't even have the rights to her own back catalogue to do as she pleases. How very frustrating for her.

No, not yours Pam!

Yeah, I'm lucky that the Pratchett name is being applied to my book, and that should give me a head start.

However, I get the impression my publisher doesn't plan to chuck a lot of money at publicity, instead relying on plugging it with Pratchett fans and fantasy websites, and getting them to get the word out.

Yes, it's the dreaded "word of mouth"!

I'm glad at least one person is looking forward to reading it.

You'll have to come and join our site. We've hundreds of members now, not all indie published, and we can help you plug it. We'd be very honored to have you. You can bet your life you'll be snapped up to do blogs and interviews as well. All good exposure.

Do you mean the Multi-story site, or another website?

No, we're a facebook site, but multi-story do interviews with authors too. I bet they'd be interested. Email me at pam.waltonhowes@btopenworld.com - there's several marketing sites that are useful via facebook, they'll be handy to have for when you start the promotions. I suppose the more you show willing, the publisher might do extra for you. I have a friend in the US who does great interviews and he's a fantasy writer with a huge following on his website. Pam.
