Lovely!

What a treat! This is lovely, Carole.
Packed full of atmosphere and sights and sounds which transported me into the deep south. You have a talent for conveying settings. The scenes are colourful and charming.

Writing in the present tense is extremely difficult but I felt you had mastered it. I very much like your narrative style. You are economic with your words; I didn’t feel anything was wasted.

The dialect is well done, not overdone, and the dialogue is natural sounding and interesting.

I enjoyed your images and choices of simile and metaphor like ‘eerily pale as a winter lake’.

Synopsis
Already April can wring the life out of her guitar – can make it moan and cry like a baby, or howl and scream like a lonely freight train passing in the night.
