Hi

Anybody know....? When an agent asks for a CV - what exactly are they looking for? What should it include - just stuff specific to writing, or a bit more about what I've done/achieved????

Mainly an agent will want to know things relevant to your writing, but include BRIEF details about your career and achievments, particularly if they are linked in some way to your writing.

For example, DON'T list your A Level results! But if you have worked in the medical profession for 20 years, and your book is a medical thriller, DO mention that. If you are a primary school teacher and your book is for children, mention that.

If you have done something REALLY quirky and unusual, mention that - sailed single-handed round the world, lived in a yurt for six months . . . that kind of thing.

Above all, keep it short and punchy, never more than a page long. If you want us to have a look at it, put it up on the Message Board for suggestions.

Sage advice as ever from Ann.

Though if applying for a particularly 'luvy' agency, suggest it's compulsory to put on your CV that you live in a yurt half the year round....

and if it's a gung ho agency you might say you took six months to sail round the world single-handed in a yurt
Songs from the Other Side of the Wall is just £0.70 on Kindle

if it's a trendy do's agency, then sail around the world in a boat made of yogurt...

Thank you for that, but I don't think I'll mention my Yoghurt Boat adventures...I mean, who hasn't done that? Perhaps I might just slip in the six months I spent in that Hummus Yurt with just an incomplete monopoly set for company. That should get me noticed.
