Well done to Claire who received the following..

"I would like to commission a short story from one of your members, Claire Whatley ..

I enjoyed reading "Ants" and wondered if she would like to contribute to the Broadsheet Stories project. "

It looks like an interesting project from their About Us page ..

"About

The Broadsheet Stories project began in July 2009 with a single outlet, The Forum cafe in Blandford Forum, Dorset. Two more venues were added later in the year: Oliver’s Coffee House in Sherborne and The Town Mill Bakery in Dorchester. Fisherton Mill in Salisbury joined us in August 2010. We are always looking for new locations – get in touch if you are interested.

The ideal location is one where customers are encouraged to linger. There will be newspapers and magazines, and possibly even free internet access. The Forum is perfect: upstairs is Huckleberry’s Bookshop – bookseller and coffee shop blend seamlessly into one another.

At the beginning of every month each venue receives 100 copies of a new Broadsheet. They are left out with the newspapers – customers can take them away if they wish but most read them over coffee and leave them on the table when they go. When they get grubby they are thrown away.

Each outlet starts at the beginning of the Broadsheet sequence. A new story will appear at The Forum first, then at Oliver’s about three months later, and so on. By the time it reaches the last outlet it will have been read by up to 1,000 people. "

Who's Catherine?

I am thrilled about this, obviously, but in fact 'Ants' is not quite commissioned yet. Because of the Broadsheet format, I need to produce a story of 1900 words or fewer which means either editing an existing story or writing a new one fairly quickly.

Even if nothing comes of this (though I still hope it will), I'm delighted that someone somewhere noticed my writing and actually thinks other people would want to read it.

Thank you. Chuffed is the word - with much idiotic smiling at random moments.

Typo re Catherine, apologies! Mental note to self to type things at a reasonable hour of the day. Many congratulations on the interest!

No problem. I did think for one dreadful moment that it wasn't meant for me at all!

I was so pleased to hear your news. Your work deserves to be noticed. Must be a nice feeling to be approached like that. Well done!

Just because I believe I'm right, doesn't mean I am.
