My two most recent reviews (for 'Family matters) are uncannily similar. Both reviewers are new to the site, and both had a remarkably similar take on my tale. The length of their reviews is about the same and even their scores were the same (30 points, btw). In addition, neither of them participate on the MB, so it's unlikely they will even read what I'm writing here.
No, I have no suspicion they collaborated, are the same person, that one read the other's review, that they belong to the same knitting circle, or anything else. In fact, they probably read my story the same way and awarded me the same marks because that's the way it reads and that's what it deserves. Their virtually identical comments about my weak opening to my opening chapters are probably a reflection of - my weak opening to my opening chapters. I was just hoping no one would notice!
My point is that their reviews, and by extension YWO, were/are extremely valuable, even quite remarkable. My story was read by people around the globe; people with different tastes in reading and different cognitive experiences, and who took the time to tell me honestly what they thought.
I'm not a spokesperson for YWO and of course there are imperfections in the site, but I do believe that when it works, it can work miracles.
