So we must say Goodbye, my darling,
And go, as lovers go, for ever;
Tonight remains, to pack and fix on labels
And make an end of lying down together.
I put a final shilling in the gas,
And watch you slip your dress below your knees
And lie so stlil I hear your rustling comb
Modulate the autumn in the trees.
And all the countless things I shall remember
Lay mummy-cloths of silence round my head;
I fill the carafe with a drink of water;
You say 'We paid a guinea for this bed,'
And then, 'We'll leave some gas, a little warmth
For the next resident, and these dry flowers,'
And turn your face away, afraid to speak
The big word, that Eternity is ours.
Your kisses close my eyes and yet you stare
As though god struck a child with nameless fears;
Perhaps the water glitters and discloses
Time's chalice and its limpid useless tears.
Everything we renounce except our selves;
Selfishness is the last of all to go;
Our sighs are exhalations of the earth,
Our footprints leave a track across the snow.
We made the universe to be our home,
Our nostrils took the wind to be our breath,
Our hearts are massive towers of delight,
We stride across the seven seas of death.
Yet when all's done you'll keep the emerald
I placed upon your finger in the street;
And I will keep the patches that you sewed
On my old battledress tonight, my sweet.

Bye bye Wales, tough luck, see you soon.

The poem, by the way is by Alun Lewis, (just in case you though I had just dashed it off.)

Well beaten this time, fair and square.

Shame, but that's the game.

Nice the way the Aussies after two non-tackles (in which Shane Williams' feet went well above his head) then failed to return him safely to the ground, and were still awarded a scrum which led to their first try. Then there were all the instances of failing to roll away and delaying tactics which were never picked up.

But then Shane's try came from a forward pass, so no complaints.

Australia deserved to win, but Wales can still feel proud and have something to build on.

Shane did take a tumble, didn't he? No malice in it though and while he looks quite teeny on the pitch, he's not a little guy.

Had Hooky got his kicks (unlikely, I know) Wales would not have deserved to win.

The best team definitely won.

I think the France match rocked the self-belief and the Warburton issue told on the performance by lack of presence and mentally. On to the future. There's a rematch to be had, and writing to be done.

Beating Ireland was a good result. So you should pat yourselves on the back for that one.

Come the six nations if you can do that again and beat Scotland and Italy, you can gain a very respectable third place. So chins up!

I cannot see England, on preset form as a problem, and I don't suppose that Alain Roland will get a sniff at refereeing France V Wales in Cardiff in March.

In fact, I rather fancy our chances of a Grand Slam.

Mind you, the match against France in Cardiff will be quite tasty I imagine.

The 6 nations is anybody's I think.

Italy aren't the pushover they once were. Wales need to regroup and practive their kicking, Scotland look like they could do better, Ireland are going to be out to prove something .... England, um, should get a good kick up the rear to get them going again.

Yep, could be anybody's.

Just going to brag, I have my seat at Scotland/Wales and the France/Wales. matches booked already.

And, Nick ... stop poking us with that stick!
