You'll have to buy the mag for further details although I expect they will turn up on the net soon.
£25k is worth chasing I should think.

DC Good Housekeeping... do you think political dystipian novels will be their thing? I do also have a hyperreality one on the boil...

It says any genre except fiction for children. It would be interesting to know exactly what they mean by unpublished though. I assume anything done the indie way wouldn't qualify. DC

Where's my highwayman's outfit? Now to find out if the only 2 bookshops within 5 miles actually stock it. Bear in mind that a customer actually had to order in a copy of 'O' last year before they started stocking it.

Do indie writers get to have it both ways, to claim they're published "indie" authors and then to claim it doesn't count when it comes to competitions?
No stars. No charts. Just crits.

Then I shall endeavour to find out for you, Malcolm, even if it involves buying the magazine!
The short story competitions I enter usually make it clear the piece must not have been published anywhere or anyhow, but The Book Seller is a bit light on the rules info for this one.

I've yet to get my sticky mitts on a copy of GH, probably because you need the entry form therein to participate and they are being snapped up.
Without the actual rules I can't throw any light on the exact meaning of 'unpublished' as yet but have gleaned being agented also disqualifies you.
Thanks, Pam, I have trouble with the live link thing.

Another interesting thing is that the magazine is "looking forward to discovering the UK's next big literary talent." Does this mean non-UK authors need not apply? BTW, this issue is one of pure curiosity to me - I have nothing ready to submit even if I were eligible.

Something to consider in deciding what to submit. GH is doing this to gain publicity for themselves, I do not doubt, and they will want to associate the winning book with their brand. You'd best believe that a book with content that is hostile toward what they promote, their mag's market, demographic etc, won't be a winner. The next great literary talent is a matter of opinion, and I expect they will claim whomever they choose is exactly that talent, natch Betcha they're gonna serialize all or some in the mag, so it has to be complementary to the adverts that will run along side of it, because they are in the business of selling adverts (I mean that is how they make their income. The articles are to lure eyes to adverts, because the more eyes, the more they can charge for the ads.) Sorry, but I am a member of the Middle Age Cynical Writers Society
