Thank you for that.

Very interesting and a lot of food for thought. It was telling that almost every agent stressed the importance of name-dropping or personal recommendation.

Thanks for that, Justine. Really helpful to know what agents are thinking/looking for.

Yes, thank you for the interesting link.

Wish I a) had a YA paranormal romance up my sleeve, and b) knew some names I could drop.

Ah well ...

Thanks again, Kate

My uncle's second wife's sister is a well-known children's writer but I can't see how this would help me. She:

a) Writes for very young children whereas I don't write for children of any age and ...

b) Is published by Oxford University Press - who don't publish fiction. (I assume her work is classed as educational)

So even having a name to drop isn't neccesarily any use.

Can't win, eh ... ?

Thanks for that great link, though after reading through it I feel like giving up with agents. Perhaps I'll try to publish '1513' here, on YWO - then get out into the sunshine for a change.

I was surprised at that one, I thought the YA paranormal market was saturated.

I think you meant to say SHOULD HAVE BEEN DROWNED AT BIRTH.

Nothing like formulaic writing to cram our art into...
