Hi, Everybody

I thought I’d let people know that I now (finally) have a website up and running – just a few text formatting tweaks to sort out. After much pondering, I decided to use DiscoverWriters, which is part of Pedalo web designers. They specialise in author websites and their clients include Ian Rankin, Philip Pullman, Helen Dunmore, Susan Hill, etc.

It’s been quite hard work, clarifying how I wanted the site to look, what I wanted to include, and how the various bits should fit together. My project manager, Will Plummer, has been very helpful and spent this morning training me (on the phone) in CMS (Content Management System).

If you are thinking of setting up a professionally designed site, I’d recommend them, but be warned, it’s very expensive.

Anyway, I’d been very glad if people could take a look at it and tell me what they think. There’s a place on the site under ‘Contact’ where you can send comments and you can also join my mailing list if you are interested. Or just post comments on this thread. Here’s the address, which I’ll try to make a live link (not sure if I can do this). Ann

Hey Ann. Nice clean look to the site, and very user friendly.

You look exactly how I imagined!

I meant that in a good way, btw. Very scholarly.

It looks good, Ann. I found the moving books a bit distracting, but otherwise - great!

Oh, I liked that bit, but then I like whistles and bells.

Thanks, Tempy and Sue. I find sites with too much going on (like video clips) a bit wearing, but I felt the cycling book covers gave a bit of movement without being too intrusive. To begin with, they went much faster, so I had to persuade the designers to slow them down.

At the moment, the link to A Running Tide goes to the out-of-print version, as the new edition isn't up on Amazon yet, but that will be fixed soon.

Scholarly? Never made it to professor, though. Too busy bringing up my brood.

Well done, Ann. The website looks really first class. Easy on the eye, great layout, very accessible - rapid movement from page to page. Very user friendly indeed, and the beach view on the home page is really lovely.
