Hi all, I'm new here, so apologies if I break any unwritten rules. Really, I should have discovered this site before I wrote my book, but regrets make poor company. The book is 'A Spurious Brood' which arrived last week, and I am still stroking the cover. I self published, as you may have gathered, and am keen to receive some genuine feedback. Too late for that! You might say, but sales of self published novels are notoriously slow, and I have to decide whether to start on the next project - or get on with the day job, which is, by the way, conspicuous by its absence at the mo. So which is it to be? And a question. How do I get an image of the book to appear in the box to the left of these posts?
Phil I read, write, bike, kayak, walk and drink Rioja - occasionally in that order. For more information go to my website

If you go to My Profile above these posts, you can upload your picture, but make sure it doesn't exceed the size. You may not be able to see it straight away. When the site refreshes it should be there.

Thanks for that. The upload is an avatar I presume? You can tell he's really familiar with this stuff

The one being the discussion over the photo shoot at the wedding, 'the soul being captured on film,' and the other the way in which the original photo faded when Father died. Perhaps you saw them, in which case ignore this. Thanks again Joe 90

Hi Joe, I picked up the photo, but missed the 'soul captured on film' reference. That might be due to reading from a screen, never a good idea. Incidentaly it's only the latest book that has been self pubbed. Of the previous two, one was a fixed fee commission, and the other was published by Trentham. The bad experience with Trentham is what decided me to self pub Spurious. Phil

The title 'A SPurious Brood' didn't serve a purpose for me. I kept on thinking of it as better entitled 'The Salt Road.' For what it's worth. TTFN

Joe, "A Spurious Brood" is a phrase used by one of the historical characters in the story. Its meaning is - hopefully - made clear later in the book. Salt Road might have made a good chapter title, but the book doesn't have them - just numbers. That was a choice forced on me by the fact that I had ordered a 320 page book from the printers, and then proceeded to write a 340 page book. If you think that is a cockeyed sequence you are probably right. Phil
