The Cloud Atlas By DAvid Mitchell This was a great book, lots of stories interweaving eachother ranging from Historical fiction through to present day to apocalypse. i Also thought it was a cool way to thread different short stories into one cohesive book. i was gutted when i finished it. Anyone else like it?

I loved it too, except for the Sonmi bit which I found a little boring. My favourite character was Timothy Cavendish - hilarious! Edit: Still haven't read Ghostwritten - next on my list, after the Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which is taking me AGES to read.

I read his Yiddish Policemen or whatever it was called. It was okay, but didn't make me rush to read anything else

There's quite a bit of info about the comic book industry which is not really my sort of thing. The way Kavalier and Clay use their comic book stories to fight against Hitler's influence is very moving though, and there are some nice touches of humour. Will let you know what I think if I ever finish it!!!

Saw Jonathan Lethem interview in LRB (I think) where he talked about them in his work

Cloud Atlas has one of the slowest, least promising openings I have ever read. I'm sorry to say I didn't persevere with it, and I know I should have. It's one of those I'd like to have read, without having had to read it.

Over the years I've read it several times and have always find something new. DC

I loved 3 of the 5 'stories' within CloudAtlas, but the one that was written in lingo was just too...knackering to persevere with, so I just blipped over that one.
I much preferred Black Swan Green. I was kind of Nick Hornby-ish - light and readable. Will try Ghostwritten as so many recommend it.
